How To Decorate A Room Especially For Your Grandchildren

If you thought that being a mother was fun, you're probably already learning that being a grandma is even more enjoyable. You get the fun of spending time with them without the stress of having to discipline them.  In fact, being a grandmother might feel a bit like you're going back in time to the days when you were a little girl yourself. If you're decorating a room especially for your grandchildren, you're in for some fun planning.

The Walls - The walls of the room you're decorating for your grandchildren will set the mood for the entire area. One idea is to have a mural painted that depicts scenes from classic books and movies. Think about how much fun it would be to have characters right from The Arabian Nights, Tarzan, Beauty and the Beast, or Alice in Wonderland. Another idea to have cork board on one of the walls. Cork board would be a great way to display your grandchildren's artwork. Select one wall that will serve as a chalk board and provide colored chalk so they can draw right on that wall.

The Furniture - The amount of furniture you buy will obviously depend on how much space the room has. If there's plenty of space, twin beds would be great. If you don't have a lot of space to work with, a futon, a sofa bed or bunk beds would be great. Hang a bench swing from the ceiling, not only for extra seating, but just because it would add fun to the decor. A hammock would be wonderful, too. Add a comfortable chair where you can sit to read books or tell stories to your grandchildren. Rather than having a chest in which to store toys, select a floor-to-ceiling shelf. Besides toys, use the shelves for storing books, puzzles, board games and stuffed animals.

The Toys - For sure buy small wooden furniture that will encourage your grandchildren to play house. Position the wooden furniture in a way that mimics a real house. For example, establish a kitchen with a small table and chairs with a matching wooden play kitchen. Add a mini ironing board for added fun. Next to the play kitchen, place a little wooden crib and a small rocking chair where children can rock their baby dolls before putting them to bed. The great part about selecting wooden furniture is that it will last for a long time. It's easy to take care of, too. Get the children to help you dust it or to wipe it off with a damp cloth. Every now and then, it would be good to spay sanitizer on it, too.
